Wild Camping in Elsted
Wild Coombe Camping is a relatively new venture for Lindsay Shaxon and her family. The campsite is on their farm, just outside Elsted. With stunning views of the South Downs, your very own reservior to swim in and fully furnished bell tents - this is a brilliant place for a getaway.
Beautiful Bell Tents
In just one season this unique campsite had gained such popularity that we were only able to book one night in one of their beautiful bell tents. We were very lucky with the weather. It was hot enough on arrival to take ourselves off for a swim in the reservoir. Then we went for a walk before coming back to the tent to sit beside the fire pit and cook up some dinner.
Sleep Well
We slept really well in the cleverly constructed palette bed (there is one double and two singles in each bell tent). The luxury of crisp white sheets and faux fur rugs made this one night getaway a real delight. We kept the door of the tent open so we could watch the embers gradually die down in the fire pit as we fell asleep.
Essential Details
Wild Combe Camping is open for a limited number of nights each year. They have around 40 grass pitches and three fully furnished bell tents. There are two reservoirs available for swimming and paddlboarding.
Note there are portaloos only, no showers, no electric hook up and you must take your rubbish away with you. This is wild camping at it's best.
